In a historic vote the British House of Commons has moved to ensure that the House of Lords of the future will be 100% elected and rejected the preferred government option, as promoted by the Leader of the Commons Jack Straw, of a mixture of elected and appointed Lords.
An option put forward by Lord Levy to allow some preferred candidates to buy their way in was not considered by the Commons.
