Just to prove to my American readership that Britain has its fair share of idiot whackos I would like to introduce you all to Patrick Mercer, a Tory MP and, until today, a member of the Tory front bench. He has had to resign his homeland security portfolio, but not his seat, after suggesting that an ethnic member of the armed forces should expect to be called a "black bastard".
