For a moment let us set aside the argument that the American process for approval for use of genetically modified crops is woefully inadequate. Regardless of whether one believes that to be true or to be false one must agree that it is important that, during the testing phase, strict quarantine protocols need to exist in order to protect both humans and the environment from harm should the testing indicate that organism is unsafe.
Taking that as a given where is the hue and cry over the continuing failure of those protocols to prevent contamination. For the third time in six months the American rice crop has been found to be contaminated with unapproved, unlicensed and/or untested GM products?
I can't hear you!
I am happy to say that the brown rice that I consume here in Britain, which invariably used to come from the United States, now comes from Uruguay. I feel much safer thank you.
