I smell an invasion comin'!

At the very least, if the discovery of up to 20,000,000,000 barrels of oil off the coast of Cuba will see the end of the Helms-Burton Act as American oil executives clamber to get their hands on the money.

If the figure is roughly correct the find will put Cuba's reserves at nearly 70% of those in the US. (What's the Spanish for "drill, baby, drill?)

Europe the Evil!

As if we need more evidence that the effete, America hating atheist socialists at the heart of the European Union want the evil doers to win we learn that the EU is dropping sanctions against Cuba, charter member of the Axis of Evil!

I reckon that means I should head down the pub for a large Cuban rum, thereby violating America's most ridiculous law!

See what you get with socialised medicine?

The world's worst state, an enemy of freedom and imagined sponsor of terrorism, Cuba is to allow free sex change operations for its citizens. Isn't it vastly superior to live in a country where only the omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent invisible hand of the "free" market can decide if you have to stay a man (or a woman) or you live or you die? Really. It is.

Still at large

America's favourite terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, curiously absent from the luxurious facilities at Guantánamo Bay Beach and Leisure Resort, still roams the streets of Miami. I thought you should know.

State of the law

Today's Guardian features a fascinating article about (infamous?) defence attorney Leonard Weinglass who has represented, amongst others, Angela Davis, Jane Fonda, the Chicago Five, Daniel Ellsberg and the SLA. He is currently working in association with the case of the Cuban Five, who are imprisoned in the US for espionage after infiltrating cells of suspected terrorists in Miami. If you read the story of their case and think "so what" just read the story again and reverse the roles of Cuba and the United States and see if you still have the same thoughts.

Compare and contrast

Cuban doctors have saved the sight of the Bolivian soldier who executed Che Guevara. Do you think that American doctors will sort out Osama's kidney problems if, as opposed to when, he is captured?

Once again the story seems to be being ignored but that liberal American press.
