Terrorism spews forth from the occupied territories!

Lawless zealots in Hebron have desecrated a place of worship and vandalised a cemetery whilst elsewhere on the West Bank illegal squatters attacked peaceful farmers and Christians who accompanied them. Surely these vicious terrorists must be wiped out, possibly by an attack from an unmanned drone, and if innocent civilians were to die in such an attack that is the price that must be paid if these cowardly evildoers insist on sheltering themselves amongst the civilian population instead of standing up and fighting like men.

Hey, wait a second. These weren't evil acts of mindless and unprovoked aggression by Muslims but legal and legitimate acts of self defence by members of the heroic (if illegal) Jewish community in the (illegally) occupied territories.

We must salute them for their valour and their steadfastness, right?

...after man is spotted driving a car on a holy day! Once again these dangerous and unbalance religious extremists are Jewish! The rioters cause "extensive damage" to property. Well no one has ever accused Israel of multi-culturalism.

Some decent and tolerant Ohioans have getting almost no coverage in the US press. Imagine the furore if the same had happened to a synagogue; possible after the distribution of an anti-Judaic publications in the area.

Israeli government exercises restraint after rocket fire!

In what can only be described as an unusual event the firing of a homemade rocket in illegally occupied Samaria has not led to reprisals by the Israeli Offence Defence Force. The fact that the rocket was fired by a Jewish yeshiva student at an Arab village may have featured in the non-reprisal by the IDF.

Rabbi Yitzik Shapira, the head of the Od Yosef Chai Yeshiva in Yitzhar, said that the priority for the students is "net Torah study" and that rocket attacks by the students are only authorised once all of their schoolwork is completed.

In the name of peace

Israel plans to build 1,000 more Israeli Jewish homes in East Jerusalem. I expect the condemnation from the White House, and the Presidential campaigns, to be swift, virulent and unequivocal.

American Jewish academic refused entry to Middle Eastern country for criticising government!

But since the academic is Norman Finkelstein and the Middle Eastern country is Israel there probably won't be a boycott or anything. Nonetheless I am sure that the State Department will protest in the strongest possible terms!

I beg to differ

The Anti-Defamation League has released the results of a new survey of attitudes towards anti-Semitism amongst what they call Israeli teenagers. According to the methodology of the survey they contacted a "representative sample of 500 Israeli teenagers 15 to 17". However it is clear from the questions, the responses and the analysis (all to be found here) that the all of those interviewed were Jewish. Given that roughly 25% of the Israeli population is not Jewish one wonders if this is accidental or if they only perceive Jews to be true Israelis.

One wonders.

If only they had just shot them

The lesson to be learned from the 21 days of incarceration given to these Israeli soldiers for mooning Palestinians in the presence of a video recording device is that one should select one's weapons carefully. Simply shooting the annoying A-rabs would have been much simpler and undoubtedly gone unpunished.

Was this the ulterior motive?

It seems that the state of Israel is claiming that it no longer wants to illegally occupy Gaza now that the blockaded Gazans, who were being collectively punished by Israel in violation of international law, have broken down the barrier between the strip and Egypt in order to buy food and fuel that was being illegally denied them by Israel. (I have noticed with some disgust that a number of right wing sites and even some newspapers, have sneeringly referred to this as the Gazans "going shopping" as if they were out to pick a pair of Ferragamo for that cocktail party on Saturday night.) If Israel decides to drop its responsibility as the occupying entity, a responsibility that they have never fully acknowledged, will the international community allow them to get away with it and if they do so will this eliminate Captain Codpiece's half-hearted call for a contiguous Palestinian state?

Living the colonial dream

Whilst continuing to talk "peace" the Israeli government has allowed the number of illegal immigrants/colonists in the West Bank to grow by 5% in the past year. Clearly what the Palestinians need is to establish a chapter of the Minutemen and build a border fence to keep out these illegal aliens who are there to steal Palestinian jobs and land. (But they don't seem to want to clean the pools, mow the lawns or cook the meals for sub-sustenance wages.)

Where's the condemnation?

As the state of Israel further tightens the noose around Gaza, an act of illegal collective punishment at best or possibly genocide in part, the silence from the world is deafening. How long will we continue to sit by and spectate at these anti-Semetic crimes against humanity!

I guess it depends on what the meaning of "eternity" is

It is good to see former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu enter into the spirit of compromise over the illegal Israeli occupation of Jerusalem in support of Captain Codpiece's Legacy '08 Tour. And in a way he is right. Given the spirit of intransigence shown over the subject Israel should be forced, at gunpoint if necessary, to abandon all of the illegally occupied territories, dismantle all of the colonial armed communities and drive all Israeli occupiers/colonials/thieves back to where they came from "for all eternity".

This shouldn't surprise anyone as this has been at least the unofficial US policy for decades but on his arrival in Tel Aviv today the US President explicitly referred to Israel as "a Jewish state". To describe this nation as belonging to one ethnic/religious group especially as it occupies territory (I am speaking of the legitimate borders of Israel as recognised by the UN) that less than seventy years ago that had a population where the majority was not Jewish in religion or ethnicity is an overt expression of racism.
