So now scientists don't think that Mount Kelut has erupted. Reports at the weekend said that scientists were certain that the Indonesian volcano had erupted even though no one could see it.

A note to local scientists: Should the mountain actually erupt it might look something like this!

I've probably just seen too many disaster films...

...but I have always been fairly certain that when a volcano erupts you could, like, tell! Of course if Mount Kelud in Indonesia has indeed erupted the potential for human tragedy is great as somewhere upwards of a quarter of a million people live within ten kilometres and is less than 100 kilometres from Surabaya, the country's second largest city.
