Huis clos - Baghdad style

I'm not sure that we actually learned anything from the past couple of days worth of testimony by the tag team of Petraeus and Crocker but there is one thing we did learn; there no way out; at least not whilst this lot is in charge. I think the thing that really worries me though is that with the effort to stir up military conflict with Iran gaining momentum everyday that Bush and his neocon allies and minions may yet find a way to keep the US in Iraq for decades to come. If they can manage to trigger a low level conflict with Iran through a manufactured incident (think Gulf of Tonkin) it would simple to argue, with some unfortunate validity, that it would then be impossible for the US to leave Iraq.

Possible? Certainly.

Probable? I'd rather not think about it.
