Of tenure and Zionism

Dr. Nadia Abu El-Haj is an assistant anthropology professor at NY's Barnard College which is associated with Columbia University and is seeking tenure there. Dr. Abu El-Haj has been a Fulbright scholar and she has studied on fellowships at Harvard and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, N.J. She has also written a book and that seems to be the problem. In it she suggests that the state of Israel has manipulated archaeology for political ends. For this she stands accused of various and sundry insults to Israel, in her scholarly work so there are moves afoot to deny her tenure which has already been approved by Barnard. Needless to say there are a lot of people outside of the academic community who believe that she is anti-Judaic and therefore must be denied her tenure. Isn't this that same political correctness that those who oppose her so often decry?
