After all the United Nations mandate, the only thing that provides the slightest legitimacy to the occupation that followed the illegal invasion, is about to expire and a majority of the Iraqi Parliament doesn't want it to be renewed. Allowing the mandate to expire would force the US to exit as quickly as possible or risk defying the United Nations (thereby leaving itself open to invasion by Canada).
The trouble is that the American and British governments would rather we didn't know about the Iraqi objections and would prefer that the Iraqis be excluded from the process.
