We're number one!!

Even though the government wishes to extend the period it can detain suspected evil doers without charge from 28 to 56 days the current limit is already the highest of any democracy according to human rights group Liberty. The next longest period is Australia at 12 days. The full report (PDF), which can be found here, list the United States at 2 days which obviously ignores its practice of secret detentions outside the country and times when the executive simply ignores the courts.
