Today in infamy

Ninety years ago to today British General Douglas Haig finally called off the offensive known as the Third Battle of Ypres, and better known today simply as Passchendaele, claiming "victory" after the deaths of over 300,000 British soldiers and about 250,000 Germans. In actuality the salient over which the battle was fought was only widened by a couple of kilometers.
