A Downing Street spin doctor attempted to explain the quote away with "I think that's just the way in which he answers questions". So, if that is not what he meant then he answers questions by not meaning what he says? Not much of defence really.
Elsewhere in the British government Margaret Hodge, the minister for trade and industry, was reported to have said that Iraq was Tony Blair's "big mistake in foreign affairs" and criticised his "moral imperialism". She immediately followed this comments by saying "I hope this isn't being reported". Sorry Ms. Hodge!
