Suez debacle explained by drug abuse! Will Iraq be next?

At least that’s what the Independent says in an article in today’s paper. Anthony Eden, who was Prime Minister during the Suez crisis, had suffered for years with cholangitis, an abdominal infection and new information has come to light as to the medications he was being prescribed. He was apparently taking drinamyl, a combination of amphetamines and barbiturates also known on the street as “Purple Hearts” at the time of the Suez crises. "Purple Hearts" have since been banned as they “impair judgement, cause paranoia and even make the person taking them lose contact with reality”.

How George Bush has got his hands on a regular supply is anyone’s guess (the White House physician may need to answer some questions about this) although his motivation may have something to do with wanting to be a hero, "just like John Kerry".
