Newly appointed Home Secretary Jacqui Smith went the Law Lords yesterday, figuratively at least as I doubt that she was actually there, to appeal High Court and Court of Appeals judgements that the government's control orders, used against uncharged and unconvicted persons under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, are a violation of human rights. The orders allow the government to tag a non-offender, restrict him to his home for eighteen hours a day, prevent the use of the Internet or the telephone and allow him or her only pre-approved visitors.
It sounds a bit harsh until you realise that we are talking about Evil Doers and Muslims to boot. Well that's OK then.
