Lockerbie stitch up?

There are lots of things that don't seem to fit together properly as regards the conviction handed down in the Lockerbie bombing trial. Libyan national Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi is appealing against his conviction in the case; a result that has already been found to be unsafe by the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission. Now there are fresh reports that Tony Gauci, a Maltese shop keeper, who was the main witness against al-Megrahi was offered 2 million USD by the CIA for his testimony. One wonders why.
