For quite some time I have thought that the timing of the planned verdict in the Saddam Hussein trail, due to be tomorrow, was to be Karl Rove's October surprise. Now it may appear that, if it was indeed intended to boost Republican chances with a positive story from Iraq, it could backfire on the evil genius.
