Is it possible that the Republicans in the Senate and the House don't want the American people to know about financial abuses and fraud undertaken by American employees and American contractors since the invasion of Iraq? It would seem so. Why else include a provision in an omnibus military authorisation bill that shuts down the operations of the audit office responsible for oversight? Why else would the provision have been inserted into the bill during a closed door session to which the American public did not have access? There is surely nothing secret or confidential involved in the determination of whether there should be a viable audit process.
The clause that terminates the function of the audit office was in neither the House nor the Senate versions of the bill. President Bush has already signed the bill into law.
Perhaps they are just getting good and tired of seeing their mates go to jail. Of course the more grown up way to deal with this is to make new friends!
