Events have moved on since I reported yesterday that Army Specialist Santos Cardona, convicted and sentenced in the Abu Ghraib abuse scandal, was due to return to Iraq as an MP with the mission to train the Iraqi police. It appears that the Army has had second thoughts and they have now announced that he will not be returned to Iraq. In a delicious twist they reasoned that he would be deployed elsewhere due to fears for his safety.
Iraq? Dangerous? Surely not just for Spc. Santos There must be any number of soldiers in Iraq thinking "Fears for his safety? What about me for fuck's sake?"
