A significant percentage of Americans believe that the Bible is the literal word of God* as opposed to an anthology of the religious writings of men spanning a few thousand years and yet "sixty percent of Americans can't name five of the Ten Commandments, and 50% of high school seniors think Sodom and Gomorrah were married".
*I find never ending amusement in asking anyone who tells me this if they have a) ever read the Bible in its entirety or b) ever read the Bible in its entirety in the original languages (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek) or only in translation.
