A truly heroic tale of grassroots journalism

Awatif Ahmed Isshag lives in al Fasher, a small market town in Darfur. Once a month or so she writes stories about life in her village or, more recently, about the situation in strife riddled Darfur, by hand and hangs them from a scrawny tree outside her house. For those without satellite dishes it is all the news they get. She calls her paper Al Raheel which, loosely translated means "moving".

Thanks and congratulations Isshag! Welcome to the roots!
