Lord Browne, the chief executive of British Petroleum, is set to leave the company over a year earlier than planned. His tenure, despite high profits driven by the Decider's illegal invasion of Iraq and tensions with Iran, has not been without controversy. He is charged with complicity in the mismanagement that led to unnecessary deaths in the Texas City refinery fire in the US.
Shareholders, including pension funds, are upset at the size of his farewell package that includes up to £11 million in share options and are trying to have it revised downwards. Lord Browne's total package including retirement benefits is believed to be in the region of £72 million. I guess he managed to get in before they closed the final salary pension scheme!
