Newt "The Amphibian" Gingrich is planning to run for the US Presidency. In order to do that he needs to get his base back. Since he seems to believe that his base is ignorant, evil and bigoted (not necessarily in that order) this weekend he decided to be ignorant, evil and bigoted. We'll see if it works.
But seriously I am envious of any child that has had a bilingual education. They are the lucky ones and they are miles ahead of the rest of us. If nothing else it teaches them to be more comfortable with language and will facilitate their learning of other languages, an incredibly valuable skill, later in life. I've spent an awful lot of time in the Netherlands and have always been envious of their almost arrogant multilingualism. There was one IT bloke I used to work with, Henk (pronounced "hank"), whose English was so good he would speak American to me and English to my British colleagues. I can also remembering staying at the home of a friend / colleague one night when I had to stay over an extra day and we couldn't find a hotel. In the kitchen early the next morning, over breakfast, I had a perfectly intelligible conversation with his five or six year old son, in English, which was his second language; French being his third.
Sod off Newt and go lay some eggs in a swamp will you?
