Going nowhere

The news that Metronet, the private consortium who is "responsible" for maintenance and upgrades on the London Underground, has lost its fight to have the taxpayer stump up to pay for its cost overruns will not be greeted happily by new PM Gordon Brown. Metronet was part of one of the so-called Public-Private Partnerships that Mr. Brown was so fond of as Chancellor of the Exchequer. The consortium now faces possible bankruptcy after failing to claw an extra £14+ billion from the public purse and London commuter face more misery as the modernisation programme will probably grind to a halt.
