Well from what I can tell Mitt Romney didn't pull off a John Kennedy today when he spoke about his "faith" although his language might have found a home with the Christian right he is trying so hard to woo. In fact it seems that he said that one cannot have freedom unless one believes (site pass req'd). Here's the quote:
"Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom. Freedom opens the windows of the soul so that man can discover his most profound beliefs and commune with God. Freedom and religion endure together, or perish alone."
That sounds rather un-American to me. I doubt that Madison would have approved.
Not that he was ever on my list but he is surely off of it now.
