New math, old racism

I spotted this news release from the World Conference on Families congratulating the American on their breeding prowess and felt compelled to reply. So I sent off the following:

Dear Larry,

I have a couple of questions related to your press release about the birth of the 300 millionth American.

1) Where and when did you learn math? First you proclaim that the American birth rate is right at the replacement level and then you state that "U.S. population growth isn’t an immigration-driven phenomenon". The replacement level birth rate is the birth rate that is required to maintain a stable population. If the US birth rate is at the replacement level then US population growth is absolutely immigration driven.

2) Was it absolutely necessary to note that "the fertility rate for white native-born women is 1.85"? First of all everyone is native born somewhere. I assume you refer to American born. Are you trying to subtly suggest to white women that their breeding rate is insufficient and they'd best catch up? Why don't you tell us the rate at which black, Hispanic, real Native American or Asian women are producing offspring? I am suspicious of a, potentially subconscious, racism here.

Just a note. Before you look at my email address and decide that a Brit has not business nosing about in American business you should know that I am a proud and patriotic American voter.

I eagerly await your response.
