I was all prepared to say something nasty about Harrods owner, and perpetual thorn in the side of the royal family, Mohamed al-Fayed this morning. Mr. al-Fayed has long been alleging that his son, Dodi, and Princess Diana were murdered, possibly by the British secret services, in their automobile crash in Paris. He has finally got his way re having the inquest into their death heard before a jury but the corner in the matter has essentially told him that it is time to put up or shut up. I fully understand how hurtful it is to lose a family member in tragic circumstances but he has, in my opinion anyway, gone over the top with his conspiracy theories.
So there I was this morning sipping a cup of tea and reading the Guardian with my poison pen at hand ready to go to work on the mad Egyptian when I came across this story in the business pages. Now that Mr. al-Fayed has done something with which I agree, extending a hand that may help save that Welsh factory that will shut when Burberry moves its manufacturing to China, I shall have to be nice to him.
I suppose that if he actually goes through with this I shall to go and buy something at his little shop on Knightsbridge. I'd best start saving now.
