Does she or doesn't she? Only her confessor knows for sure.

The Minister for Communities and noted Opus Dei member Ruth Kelly is the minister that I most often see and then wonder "why is she there". This is especially true given that her current brief includes equality which aren't necessarily a smooth fit with her Catholic conservatism, especially as regards homosexual rights. She has come out (snigger) yesterday and made a strong statement in support of the new gay equality law. She said, in part:

"This is a major step forward in ensuring dignity, respect and fairness for all.

"These measures will help tackle the practical barriers and real, everyday problems faced by lesbian, gay and bisexual people. It cannot be right in a decent, tolerant society that a shopkeeper or restaurant can refuse to serve a customer because they are gay.

"It cannot be right for a school to discriminate against a child because of their parents' sexuality or not to take homophobic bullying as seriously as they should."

Even money says she had her fingers crossed!
