The freedom agenda - another instalment in an occasional series

There is an interesting and disturbing article in today's Guardian about the increasing incidence of disappearances related to the security services in Pakistan and the level of US involvement in them. Those taken away can be held without charge, sometimes for years (sound familiar) and tortured. The torture is real. It sometimes occurs in the presence of American FBI or CIA officials. The FBI euphemistically refers to the maltreatment of those under questioning as "locally acceptable forms of interrogation".
