The Germans act like the French

Some right of centre German politicians have decided to adopt an Anglophobic (or is it an Ameriphobic) stance and protest the creeping intrusion of unnecessary English words into German life. They cite such examples as Deutsche Bahn's use of "Service Point" and "Surf & Rail", signs in taxis that say "please fasten your seatbelt" instead of "Bitte anschnalle" and a department store’s use of the word "sale" to describe a period of discounts.

The group behind the initiative, "Consumer Language Protection", claims that "some 33 percent of people in Germany do not understand English" thereby putting the European state 5-10 percentage points ahead of most American "red" (Republican) states.
