At hearings before the US House Committee on Government Reform the former chief of staff at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, Philip Cooney, has defended textual changes he had made to scientific reports on climate change saying that the changes were to bring the releases into line with "the administration's stated policy".
Before his position at the Council on Environmental Quality Mr. Cooney was an oil industry lobbyist. He has since left government to work at ExxonMobil. I am sure that he is eminently qualified for the editorial role that he took on.
