UPDATE: Tsvangirai has a fractured skull and is currently being treated in intensive care in hospital.
If only Zimbabwe had some oil their people would undoubtedly be rid of Robert Mugabe by now. Of course they would have to put up with an interminable American occupation and a big, fuck all embassy. Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has been allowed hospital treatment, along with 50 of his supporters, after having been arrested and beaten by the police. With not hint of irony he has been charged with "incitement to violence".
This Guardian article about the situation in Harare contains a splendidly hypocritical comment from Christopher Dell, the US ambassador, about the conduct of the Zimbabwean government:
