The inhabitants of the small Spanish town of Grajal de Campos are accusing a Carmelite convent of running off with valuable religious statues that the villagers traditionally carry during their Easter procession. The nuns took the sculptures with them when their nunnery shut down and moved to Toledo. According to the Guardian story "the nuns claimed that, as they had been responsible for dusting and shining the statues, they belonged to them". Residents of the town have taken to hiring coaches, going to Toledo and demonstrating outside the nuns' new home.
If this establishes a precedent for Spanish domestic staff to avail themselves of the houses of the wealthy across Iberia should be nearly empty by now.
