Observer correspondent Jason Burke takes us deep into the new Afghanistan if only to show us how much it resembles the old Afghanistan that the Russians were so enamoured with, only worse. It is not a pretty sight and is clearly a terrible mess that shall be left to Captain Codpiece's successor to try to sort out.
