Did anyone check to see if he had his fingers crossed?

According to the headline in the Christian Science Monitor Michael Mukasey, who is up to be the next Attorney General of the United States has told Congress that he "rejects torture*, vows independence". Am I the only one who is skeptical?

*Definition of "torture" has been withheld in the interests of national security.
