Today in infamy

Five hundred and seventeen years ago today a lost and hungry Cristóbal Colón didn't discover anything but did manage to bring disease, slavery, persecution, the scourge of the Christian god and genocide to a race of people who are still suffering the fallout from his visit. We can't however hold him solely responsible for the suffering of the indigenous peoples of the Americas as if it hadn't been him eventually it would have been someone else.

Now before all of you Italian Americans get up in arms at my belittling of your great hero it is vital that you understand he may not have been Italian. Even if he was they clearly thought he was a nutter.

"What? You think India's that way? You crazy mate. Fuck off to Spain will you?"

Perhaps it is time to get rid of this ridiculous and insulting holiday. After all it is only a holiday for bankers and government employees.
