The end of the booze cruise may be in sight

If the UK government loses its case before the European Court of Justice you may no longer have to make the trek to Dover and hop across to France on the ferry to get cheap booze. The Court is expected to approve an earlier ruling that British residents may buy French alcohol, via the internet, have it delivered and not be liable for UK duty. Neither Gordon Brown nor Stena Ferries will be well pleased.

Just a click then et voilà - crates of cheap, French plonk on your doorstep. Of course this does mean forgoing the two hour lunch in a French café which was really the reason to go in the first place. The booze was just an excuse.
