La vida dulce

Need a chain saw and don't want to pay?

Live in the tropics but long nonetheless for a cashmere jumper?

Think the prices of Game Boys and Playstations are too high?

Want a mountain bike?

Miss expensive Godiva chocolates?

Fancy a crabcake sandwich?

The answer to all of these modern dilemmas (and undoubtedly many more) would appear to be to become an anti-Castro Cuban and then get the US government to foot the bill.

In the last decade the US has distributed over 70 million USD in Cuba to "encourage democracy" but a GAO study has found there to have been no oversight (a common theme of late) and most of the funds seem to have been wasted. USAID has responded by saying it is "taking issue" with some of the accusations (as yet unspecified) but that it would "seek to improve agency performance in managing, monitoring and evaluating this assistance".

Hmmm. I wonder if they can get PS3s for Xmas!
