Protests ahead. Stay clear!

The American embassy in Jakarta has warned Americans in the country that protests are expected during President Bush's visit and that they may turn violent. They suggest that Americans should therefore avoid the "protest areas" unless of course they wish to join in.

I wonder if a "protest area" is anything like a "free speech zone".
