In a clever diversion from his troubles elsewhere (BAE inquiry, legality of Iraq war, lordships-for-lolly scandal) the British attorney general Lord Goldsmith has blasted American proposals for changes at the Guantánamo Bay detention camp as "too little and too late" yesterday.

Well he can be right some of the time.
