According the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration this has been the warmest Northern Hemisphere winter since records began nearly 130 years ago. I can already hear the chorus of protest about blizzards and ice storms but the facts don't lie. The second warmest winter was 2004 and the third 1998.
NOAA spokesman Jay Lawrimore was however "quick to stress that the warm winters were in no way a reflection of the role greenhouse gases played in the situation".
