Liberal Europe and increasing illiberal and autocratic (Catholic) Poland seem to be heading down different paths. The recent homophobic moves (banning a gay pride parade, closing down gay bars and clubs as well as moving to ban any un-bigoted discussion of homosexuality in Polish schools) in the Eastern European country are now joined by the fact that European Court of Human Rights has upheld an appeal against the country's draconian abortion laws which allow no room for abortion even in cases where a woman's medical situation makes one necessary. Something has to change.
