The seamy side of cricket

It is not that I would expect violence and murder to surround international football but it would not surprise me but to hear that the death of Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer hours after his side were knocked out of the cricket World Cup by Ireland, yes I said Ireland, has been ruled a murder is shocking indeed. To me cricket is redolent of summer afternoons on a village green, sitting in the shade of an oak tree with a pint of bitter. It does not make me think of violent acts in Jamaican hotel rooms.

Perhaps most disturbing is the suggestion put forward the Woolmer may have known his killer(s) as there was no sign of forced entry into the room and little disturbance within it.

The full text of the statement by the Jamaican police is to be found here
