Tomorrow marks the fourth anniversary of the illegal invasion of Iraq and the beginning of the fifth year of occupation. So in looking back how are we to assess the "progress" of the freedom agenda so far.
- Conditions in Iraq continue to spiral downward, the country's infrastructure remains seriously damaged, the education and medical systems are crumbling. If not, as yet, actually in a civil war the country is certainly on the precipice of one. Iraqi civilians continue to die, uncounted.
- American soldiers continue to die. Five died yesterday.
- The good news is that oil prices have stabilised. The bad news is where they have have stabilised. At least loyal Bush supporters in Iran and Venezuela are happy.
- The world is a much less safe place. Conflicts elsewhere in the Middle East (Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Kurdistan, Iran) beckon. Terrorist attacks worldwide continue to increase and it is only a matter of time before the US suffers another major attack.
Mission accomplished my arse!
