The US State Department is happy to tell us of a Chinese and a Danish film that won prizes at a film festival in Maryland. I suspect that they won't be so eager to point out that Imperial Life in the Emerald City, by Rajiv Chandrasekaran about the abject failure, chaos and cronyism that is and was the American reconstruction "effort" in Iraq has won the prestigious Samuel Johnson non-fiction book prize. I wonder why that might be?
