British MPs are to investigate whether the American government has been using British sovereign territory as a way station and prison in its illegal "extraordinary rendition" kidnap and torture campaign. There is strong evidence that the CIA has been using the US airbase on Diego Garcia to house and (not) torture detainees as part of the Eternal Global War on Terra.
Of course should the investigation turn up illegal activity by the Yanks there is the chance of a happy ending for almost everyone. The violations of international law could be used as a rationale to void the lease on the airbase, due to expire in 2016 but certain to be renewed, and then return the islands to the exiled Chagos Islanders as the High Court has ruled that they should.
The Yanks will be unhappy at this but fuck 'em if they can't take a joke!
