Edwin Starr asks: "war - what is it good for?"

The MOD responds: "quite a lot actually. The government stands accused of glamorising war to British youth in order to meet armed forces recruiting targets. Of course the charges are levelled by a bunch of cowardly Quakers at the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust so what should have we expected?

Perhaps the most interesting statistic is mentioned in the Guardian article on the subject. It notes that the MOD is spending £2 billion annually to recruit and train about 20,000 soldiers. This translates to around £100,000 per man or woman who they will end up paying about £20K per annum. Perhaps if they raised the remuneration, not to mention the post force assistance, a bit they wouldn't have to be so bloody deceitful.
