In what they claim to be the first study of its kind the UN linked World Institute for Development Economics Research have released data about the distribution of wealth and capital across the globe. The richest 1% own 40% of worldwide wealth and the richest 2% control more than half.
Perhaps the most disturbing news is that the bottom 50% (over 3 billion people!) controls less than 1% of the wealth.
