The Christian law firm (if that isn't an oxymoron it should be!) Liberty Counsel presents its annual "Naughty and Nice" list. This invaluable tool separates American retailers into those who "censor" Xmas (naughty) and those who "promote" it (nice).
They seem to have set the bar for "niceness" pretty low though. LL Bean makes the "nice" list just for having a Christmas catalogue and JC Penney's gets there for their "Christmas Shipping Countdown".
They don't seem to understand that the entire American capitalist feeding frenzy that is Xmas where billions of dollars are spent buying unneeded presents manufactured in "emerging" nation sweatshops by workers who are not paid enough on which to live to give to people who have too much already dishonours the memory of a Jesus who preached poverty, humility, self-sacrifice and, let's face it folks, socialism!
Simply saying or not saying "Merry Christmas" at the till neither honours nor dishonours the memory of Jesus. The greed, avarice and inequity do! Those who purport to be Christians but cannot see below the surface of the hypocrisy of those the rate as "nice" or pro-Christian dishonour the holiday and the man it memorialises!
