What's good for business is good for the country. And Iraq is very good for business but not so good for theAmerican taxpayer. Corruption in reconstruction is costing in excess of four billion USD annually according to Stuart Bowen who is the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction.
You'll remember Mr. Bowen. He's the one whose job was so unnecessary that the Republican Congress completely eliminated his funding earlier in the year. Hopefully this is one of the problems that the Democratic Congress will rectify in their first one hundred days!
Additionally up to one third of reconstruction contracts are now under investigation. Maybe Dick Cheney should sell that Halliburton stock before the results come in.
If someone wants to looking for the money apparently Loudon, Virginia might be a good place to start!
