Bird flu update

New research indicates that should there be a pandemic of bird flu and the use of Roche's Tamiflu become widespread that the end result could be the creation of a drug resistant strain in the wild.

Anti-viral drugs are relatively new and have never been used in the kind of broad ranging treatment that could be expected in the face of a global outbreak. The research indicates that the active ingredient in the drug would persist in waste water for a significant period after broad use and would resist biodegradation.
